Northern Adirondack Railroad pass issued to E. B. Beardsley, Treasurer of the Hartford and Connecticut Western RR Co.
It was signed by John Hurd who was instrumental in the start-up of the railroad. The railroad went into receivership and reorganized into the Northern New York Railroad
The Town of Santa Clara was named after the highly venerated wife of John Hurd, Clara, daughter of P.T. Barnum. John was a partner in the Santa Clara Lumber Company for which he started a railroad. The Town was formed in 1888 from part of the Town of Brandon. Names associated with early settlement are Jennings, Harrison, Rice and Wait.
