The Town of Newcomb was formed from the Towns of Minerva and Moriah on March 15, 1828. It was first settled around 1816 by Joseph Chandler and other settlers such as James Chandler, Collins Hewitt, and William Butler followed. The town was named after Daniel T. Newcomb, the town's first supervisor.
