The first settlers arrived in the area about 1804. Ebenezer West and William Hill were two of the earliest. The
Town of Minerva was originally annexed from the Town of Schroon on March 07, 1817. In 1828 a section of the
Town of Newcomb was added and, finally, in November of 1870 another section of the Town of Schroon was
added. The community was named for
Minerva, he Roman goddess of wisdom
