Letter to Dr. George T. Stevens
The Town of Crown Point was established in 1786 as one of the first towns in Essex County.
Stephen Spaulding, a veteran of the Revolutionary War, and his brothers came from Vermont around 1800 to
become the first permanent settlers in the area.
Because of its strategic location on Lake Champlain,
Crown Point, featured prominently in battles both by the
French and English from colonial through revolutionary times.
