The Town of Brighton encompasses the whole of what was originally Township 18 and half of Township 15
of Tract 1 of McComb's Great Purchase. It was separated from the Town of Duane in November of 1858.
Brighton was named after the famous royal resort town of
Brighton, England.  The first settlers were Moses
Follensby, Samuel Johnson and
Amos and Levi Rice who arrived in the early 1800s.
